Sometimes it is worth while to go out of your way for something you had previously tasted and liked. This goes for Bobby’s Fish and Chips in Tauranga. Heading up north from Rotorua to Auckland we decided to make a detour via Tauranga just to have some decent fish and chips and perhaps one of the better fish and chips we have had in the North Island. Just be aware especially on a hot summers day, there could be a wait for your fish and chips. We had to wait for a good 30-40 minutes for our fish and chips which are cooked to order. Though in saying that the guys behind the deep frier seem to be cooking fish and chips non-stop to cater for the constant demand.
We ordered a few fish and chips to share:
Fish of the day – today’s fish of the day is Blue Gill a fish that I have not heard of. One of the things both Mr Wasabi and I enjoy is a good thin yet crispy batter and this is where Bobby’s fish and chips tick our boxes. The batter was not only crispy but also golden. The fish today were fairly large, though on other occasions when we had dined here previously the fish was Tarakihi, which were relatively small pieces where we got extra pieces to cater for the small pieces that were being offered.
Chips – were golden and crispy on the outside. Nothing to fault with these chips.
One down side to this fish and chip shop is the long queue which means that there can be a potential long wait for your fish and chips especially on a sunny day. If you are ever in Tauranga and am looking for some decent fish and chips then I definitely recommend Bobby’s fish and chips.
