I have always tried to find a decent cafe in ‘The Hutt’ but never really found one until today. Having just visited one of my friends in Lower Hutt I somehow made my way to Lower Hutt city where I saw this cafe sitting amongst some residential property which seem to be quite popular with the locals.
As I walked through the main door, I saw this sticker on the door stating it had won the People’s Choice Regional awards as part of the New Zealand Cafe of the Year.
I decided to duck my head for a quick bite. There was nothing on the menu that really tickled my fancy however the sweet and savoury counterfood items looked more appealing, so opted for a couple of items.
Carrot Cake – looks delicious with the nuts, the thick cream cheese frosting and pumpkin seeds. The cake itself was moist, though I found it to be fairly heavy if you had a slice all to yourself. I ordered this to take away and had to eat it in 2-3 goes before I was able to finish it.
Courgette and Feta Filo Pie – When I had asked whether this would be warmed, I thought it would be warmed in the microwave, but this was not the case. It was actually warmed in an oven, as the the filo pastry was crispy. The pie itself was light and airy, warmed to the right temperature and served with a side of house made tomato.
Great little cafe serving a good selection of counterfood items. Will definitely be back to try more items.
