Bakels New Zealand, Pie Awards 2015 was announced a few months ago which went to a Supermarket in Napier – more specifically the Greenmeadows New World, and nothing was going to stop me to try this pie out the next time I was in Napier, and the fact that the supermarket was just down the Road from where we were staying.
Potato Top Pie – is a classic New Zealand pie made with a mince filing and mashed potatoes on top. – the pastry itself was short and not flaky which make it an ever so slightly healthier pie than your usual greasy buttery pastry. the mince filling was fill of minced meat not a gravy filler and the mast potato on top was neither to bland nor too buttery with a nice crispy topping.
I would say the Mince to Potato ratio was around 50:50 which was nice. Though it could have done with a bit more mince and less potato in my humble opinion or even a deep dish pie would be nice also.
But regardless both Mr Wasabi and I thought the pie was quite nice with good quality ingredients inside.
Definitely more than happy to return to get more pies.
