La Cloche Revisited

www.misopeckish.comIt has been a while since I was last here, due to the fact we seldom head out this way.

This time we managed to get in before 11am where I was able to order from the breakfast menu – the Le Pain Perdu which is only available before 11am.

As we waited for our dishes to arrive, I took the opportunity to look at the delicious counterfood items.  Ranging from sweet patisserie that look mouth watering to the pastries and savoury baguettes to take home items such as sausages, pates etc.

Flat White – Coffee beans by Flight Coffee, a local Wellington coffee roaster.  Nothing to fault with the coffee.

Plain Croissant – was served at room temperature. I was hoping that it would be warmed with a serving of jam.   we had to ask for jam, which a generous portion of jam was provided.

Le Pain Perdu – La Cloche French Toast – Brioche, berry coulis
and crème anglaise was perhaps the best ever French Toast I have ever had.

Two thick pieces of toast – Brioche covered in an egg wash and then cooked where the outside is crispy while the middle was still soft was heavenly.  The thick luscious berry coulis had the right amount of sweetness that was not over powering topped with slivered almonds.  The creme anglaise was served in a separate jug in which you can pour as much or little was you want.

Breakfast Cassoulet-Pork Sausage with White beans topped with a fried egg –  oven baked beans in a tomato sauce served with one chipolata sausage and a fried egg was quite delicious.  the crusty bread crumbs placed on top of the white bean cassoulet provided a welcoming crisp crunch. The single sausage that was served with the cassoulet was very lean but very tasty.  it would have been much nicer if there were at least 2 or 3 of these delicious sausages.

Great popular place if you are after a French fix as they serve a selection of delicious pastries and patisserie as well as good old French classics like croque madam, French onion soup, escargot, Beef bourguignon etc.
