Airline Lounge Review: Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge – Hong Kong International Airport

www.misopeckish.comAs most of you will know, Thai Airways is part of the Star Alliance Network, which means Star Gold frequent flyers are able to use the Thai lounge when travelling on a Star Alliance flight.  This lounge is also the default lounge for Air New Zealand customers.

The Thai Lounge is located by the bridge where the terminal splits into two. next to the plaza premium lounge.    The Thai lounge houses both their business and first class customers where the First Class customers have access to the segregated first class area, which is cut off by some privacy boards.

As you enter the lounge, the business centre is located on the right, followed by the food galley then the seating area.

The Thai lounge offers a selection of buffet style food offering of Thai related hot foods, sandwiches and snacks.

A good selection of  spirits, beer, soy milk and fizzy drinks on offer that is enough to quench your thirst.

The lounge is open and can get quite noisy as it is located in an atrium above the terminal walkway.  not all seats have insert power sockets. which can be a bit annoying especially when you are trying to charge your laptop or cellphone prior to your flight.

One good thing about the location of the lounge is that it is located fairly close to the gate that AirNZ usually departs from.

Boarding for AirNZ flight is broadcast over the PA. I entered the lounge fairly late, when hey had just announced the boarding call,  When I checked in, the staff at the counter informed me that they had just announced boarding, however I was still allowed in the lounge

A good selection of local, foreign and international magazines and news papers are offered to help yourself.

Amenities:  Free Wifi, Showers?, Business Centre (includes computers, fax, scanner, printer), Meeting Rooms, magazines and newspapers,

Hours:  06:00 – 23:00

Location:  Close to Gate 40 (Use escalator or lift at Level 6)

Verdict: It is an ok lounge however it is not the best I have been in. but it serves its purpose to refresh, replenish and to provide travellers with what they need prior to their journey.   For me it was to relax, unwind and to catch up on the news via the internet.
