I had earlier made a reservation for dinner, but then as we drove by around lunchtime, Plus decided that we should come here for lunch instead.
I was thinking that we would not get a table as we did not make a booking for lunch. I was actually astounded of the lack of customers it had. There was only one other couple there and this was about 12.30pm.
We were able to get a table without any issues. The majority of the tables are held within the restaurant with a handful of tables on the deck which is also sheltered from the wind and cold.
Seared Beef Buschetta w celeriac, capers & cornichon mayonnaise $4 per piece – the beef was the highlight of this dish. Nicely seared on the outside, which left it to be fairly tender in the inside. There was a hint of spice on the beef which was a nice touch. the combination of the spice, capers and the mayonnaise hit the right spot for me as I took my first bite. I did not want to share it with Plus 1, so we ordered another piece.
Seafood Soup w groper, mussels, cockles, potatoes & cream w bread & butter, creamy soup with a small selection of the seafoods mentioned above. It was nice, however nothing overly exciting. The bread was a house baked sourdough which was fresh and soft.
Grilled Ribeye Sandwich w avocado, fried egg, chutney and mayonnaise for less than $19 I thought was a bargain and decided to order it. The steak was thin as I had expected, but the worst part was that it was over done.
Side – Brussels Sprouts w Sautéed Onions and Bacon was simply delicious. I guess you cannot go wrong with this combination which was nicely seasoned.
I do not understand why this is rated highly. Food is more or less ordinary, or perhaps this is the case for lunch, but dinner may be different? I do not think I will be in a rush to return especially for lunch, as there are other cafes which I would like to try on my next visit.
