F.G. Smith Eatery

www.misopeckish.comI was after a coffee knowing I had a long night ahead with the All Blacks v Argentina rugby game,  so I popped into FG Smith Eatery fairly late in the afternoon, where they had stopped serving food from the menu and the only food available was a small selection of counterfood.

FG Smith Eatery has seating both indoors and outdoors in the courtyard for those looking to soak up some vitamin d on those sunny Hawke’s Bay days.   It has quite a modern industrial feel to it, where it seems to share the same roof space with another store selling clothes,  as there is a large opening between the two stores.

The counterfood which consisted of some sausage rolls, savoury muffin and a few sweet slices did not appeal to my tastebuds at the time, so I opted for a coffee to go.

Not knowing the coffee beans used were by All Press (An Auckland coffee roaster), I ordered a Long Macchiato.  I must admit this coffee would have to be one of the worst coffees I have had in recent times.  Not because All Press beans were used, but the fact that the temperature of the coffee was far to hot.  As I took my first sip, I had scolded my mouth and my tongue.  Truly disappointed, that they had burnt the coffee.  I resisted the temptation to take my coffee back since I was not dining in.

Coming from Wellington, I do have a level of expectation on coffee, and this certainly missed the mark by a long way.   In saying that I do want to try their lunch menu one day, as it looks quite appealing.
