Loretta is the younger the sister of Folorita’s which recently opened a few weeks ago. Loretta emphasises on fresh and healthy which is a huge tick for me . I finally found some time to give this place a try.
The restaurant is much larger than I originally thought as it goes deep inside. What makes this place slightly interesting is that their menu changes everyday. You may get some items the same on consecutive days, but its all about what is in season and fresh.
If you are weary about ‘what’s on the menu’, have no fear, Loretta posts their daily menu online at www.loretta.net.nz.
Wine – not your typlical wine glasses here. But does it really matter what vessel is used?
Wheat Berry Salad – consisting of pulled chicken, sango sprouts, radish and chives. I was wondering whether a salad will satisfy my needs. It definitely was filling, satisfying and delicious. Perhaps a little bit on the salty side.
Whole Roasted Flounder – to say the least I was expecting a larger flounder. But in the end the flounder was a good serving size for one, even though Plus 1 decided to hog half of my flounder. The lemon and herb dressing. To be honest it was quite a boring dish as it did not come with any salad etc. For the price you pay I would expect something to accompany the fish.
Roasted Chicken Soup with bread and salad – the soup was well seasoned, hot and fulling. The salad was just as salty as the wheat berry salad.
Apple and Fig Tart – good level of fruit encased within a tasty and light shortbread. It would be nice if the slice was ever so slightly larger.
Tamarillo Ripple Ice Cream – no tart is without a scoop of ice cream. The ice cream was not overpowering in tamarillo flavour, very creamy as you would expect from a good quality ice cream.
Flat White – not the prettiest of coffees I have been presented with. However as they say, never judge a book by its cover. The coffee tasted quite nice and made at the right temperature. Loretta uses Supreme coffee beans, which is one of my favourite bean roasters from Wellington.
The service was excellent. The staff knew the menu, knew how things tasted and water was regularly topped up. Will definitely be back again to try other items. Loretta is not the cheapest of places to dine and for the food you get, but definitely very healthy, fresh and different compare to other restaurants in Wellington.
