Cafe Polo

www.misopeckish.comI had always wanted to try Cafe Polo to see what the rave was about, and what better opportunity than to take my mum out for brunch, as she was down on a fleeting visit.

I must say, Cafe Polo provides exceptional service, even though we were dining outside gathering at much vitamin D before winter takes over.   Generally when you dine away from the waiter/waitress eye sight, you are generally forgotten and service does not exist.

Dining inside is split into three sections, to the left, and right of the counter and the main seating area in front of the counter.

The delivery of our ordered items came more quickly than anticipated, which is a good thing, as I do not tend to enjoy waiting a long time for my food to come.

Eggs Benedict with hot smoked salmon on muffins – the holandaise sauce was nice thick and creamy.

Eggs were nice and runny, however I would have preferred it to be ever so slightly more cooked such that it was not so runny.  The muffin was soft and lightly toasted.  There was a good portion of inhouse hot smoked salmon.

After tossing up between the corn fritters or the Haloumi and recommendation from the staff I ended up ordering the Haloumi.

Zany Zeus Haloumi & thyme roasted field mushrooms on 5 grain toast with
pine nuts & mesculin salad – simply delicious.  The dish was light and refreshing and good portion sizes.

The 5 grain toast contained lots of grains which I loved and very filling.  Underneath the large serving of fresh, crisp mesculin salad lies three good size pieces of the Zany Zous Haloumi which was pan fried to perfection – slightly creamy and heated all the way through, the mushrooms were succulent and juicy.    The salad had a good drizzling of caramelized balsamic vinegar which was thick and sweet.

Flat White coffee – Caffe Laffare beans were used.  Coffee was nice and strong.  My mum complained that the coffee was quite strong. I guess Aucklander’s are not use to good coffee that Wellington has to offer :)

Cafe Polo is a great little cafe with a handful of seats outside and indoors.  With a daily changing lunch and dinner menu which  is always good as you can never get sick of it.  Staff are friendly and helpful.  Will definitely be back to try their lunch menu.
