Wanting to try something different for dessert, we went to Ye Shun Milk Company that specialises in steam milk pudding. I saw this place in Macau, but never managed to make the trip. So when I saw it in Hong Kong I decided that I have to try what all the fuss was about.
As I approach the shop, rows and rows of milk puddings were seen through the window.
The decor of this place have nothing to rave on about. As with most Asian restaurants, people tend to go where the food is good and not necessary the decor or cleanliness.
Menus are on the table in Chinese, English menu is available on request. Ye Shun also offers snack foods such as pork chop buns, chicken wings, macaroni soup etc…
Double Skin Hot Steam Milk Pudding – The pudding was reheated and arrived fairly hot in temperature. The “skin” on top was apparent and separated from the rest of the pudding. The pudding was soft in texture while the taste was milky and sweet
Hot Steam Milk with Ginger – The steamed milk with ginger is extremely smoothed and has a mild milk and ginger flavor. I love how it melts in your mouth, soothes along your throat, into the stomach and warms up the body gradually with the ginger in it. Yet its texture is not as thick as Double Stewed Milk, kinda more liquified as ginger sugary water was added to it, thus it is less smooth and does not contains as much milk flavor as the Double Stewed milk does.
While it may not be the most fancy dessert, it’s the kind that you reach out for when you want something that you know it’s good and consistent.
