As part of Wellington on a Plate event, Ruth Pretty a local Wellington chef and catering guru decided to setup a popup ice cream stall ‘ We all Scream for Ice Cream’ in the middle of Wellington CBD – Midland Park, selling two scoops of luscious ice cream for $5.
Ruth Pretty’s popup ice cream stall will be in Midland Park on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the two weeks while Wellington on the Plate is on. She will also bring her popup stall to the Moore Wilson’s night market on Sunday 18 August – I cant wait to take my Plus1 to the night market (another excuse to get another ice cream)
Ruth offers different ice cream flavours each of the three days. On Thursday when I visited she was offering:
There is a separate stall/booth where you pay your $5 (cash or eftpos) and in return you get a stamped piece of paper which is your token to your two scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone or in a cup.
On this occasion I decided to get 2 out of my ‘5+ a day’ (fruit and vege intake) by selecting Raspberry and boysenberry ripple
The ice cream was not icy and not as creamy as the more expensive ice creams you can get from the likes of Movenpick, Rush Munroes, Kapiti etc etc… If you are into less creamy ice creams then I would recommend Ruth Pretty’s ice cream. I would say quality wise, it would lie inbetween your average priced ice cream ie. Tip Top and the more expensive ice creams as mentioned above ie. Kapiti. The waffle cone was delicious, nice and crunchy.
